Firefox updated its terms of use to remove the part where they say they won't use your data for AI training or commercial purpose... Mozilla is soooo cooked it created a massive backlash from the community. They tried to justify VERY POORLY. One attempt at explain has been made on youtube, don't waste time watching it it's a shitty one i think.
More explanations here and here.
Add this to the fact that mozilla has been more and more funded by google rencently, the addition of a sponsored home page and all this kind of corporate bullshit, you'd understand that to the FOSS community they are pretty much cooked.
The question now is :
What do we do ?
Well, idk. But I found this very interesting project : Ladybird
They are really promising. No weird fundings, user-first policy, small team, google-free browser. Very advanced project, by competent people with a bit of morals. Needless to say, the interest toward this project just boomed since the mozilla TOS announcement.
But there is a tweak. They are still pre-alpha.... Meaning you won't get any pre-built executable file, and even if you did that'd be buggy as fuck. The first alpha release is previewed for 2026, and final release for 2028 (we know deadline are a thing to be post-poned, so let's say 2030) AND windows not supported. Maybe a good reason to switch back to linux for work & personnal computers ?
I'd follow closely the advancement, and I think that i'll switch as soon as possible. Meanwhile, meh, let's do with what we have... Corporate shitstorm
